Futaba PCM...any good or outdated?

Anyone familiar with the Futaba PCM 1024 radio? I have a bid on one on ebay for cheap and was wondering if it was worth picking up. From what I understand it has built in fail safe...am I right on...

I don't have calipers..but i measure 1 7/8" width. If more room is needed, you could easily sand or dremel the sides of the top plate to get it to fit.
