Since it's just a shunt with a hall effect sensor, I would say you can think of it as simple wire and it doesn't matter which end you connect first. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a FMA 10S charger which doesn't even try to charge if there's no balancing connector attached. This charger is 180W maximum output so it should be able to charge them both at once at around 8...
