Its kind of like a push-pin or a tack into a wall. Push it in and pull it out to many times and the fit becomes loose. I know that metal is strong than drywall, but the same concept applies.
Also, since I'm sure the motor didn't come apart perfectly straight, I'm sure even more stress was put on the can where it is clamped.

The only chipping I have seen is from the glue that holds the motor together. I've had 4 Feigao motors come apart on me, and haven't yet seen any actual damage (like stretching or bending) done to the aluminum. However, a couple of bearings have been destroyed from the angle the motors came apart at.
