All of my comments are about the Spektrum, as I've never owned the Futaba.
If anyone is running a Spektrum system and has NEVER had a problem, they are lucky. I don't think that there's anything out there that is going to be 100% problem free.
The problem that I was having was the the internal bec on my controllers was apparently cutting the power to the receiver for very short periods of time (probably due to over heating) and everytime the bec cut power to the receiver, it would reboot. The apparently takes a lot longer to reboot than most receivers and the truck/car would be out of control until the receiver came back on line.
I've also bent more than one chassis on a nitro car because the Spektrum stopped responding and the failsafe didn't work like it was supposed to. Maybe you won't have any trouble, I'm running in a urban area where that is more potential for interference. If you are running in a more rural or even sub urban area, you may not have any troubles at all.
All in all, I still like the spektrum the best, although the nomadio systems look appealing. I tried a a JR FM synthesis system and that made me want to throw it on the ground and stomp on it.
I don't think that the Spektrum is as trouble free as some would like to believe, but I do still like it the better than anything else I've tried. Just don't rely on it to be foolproof, until you've tried it out in your system.
