My 8t weighs a little under 9.5 pounds RTR with a 5k maxamps 4s Lipo packs. I just finished it up 2am Sunday morniong for a day of racing(had fun, but learned a few lessons as well). :)
The good news is that I put a good testing on a 16 tooth hardened pinion(used 8's stock spur) and the truck and conversion held up fantastic. I lost my pinion set screw in the main, though(the metal pinion on a metal spur has a bit more vibration than plastic/etal and I hadn't loctited the set screw). The pinion looks perfectly fine after a day of racing, too (besides the normal wear of the black oxide coating). I plan to offer 14t, 16t and 20t hardened pinions in the store in a week or so(once I get the gears cut and sent to heat treat for hardening and oxide). I will add more depth to the hardened gear line as well, but the 14, 16 1nd 20 will be the start point.
I will bust out a few of the 8t kits this week - here are a few pictures of my truck(kit will allow mechanical brakes, though I didn't have the needed motor or pinion/spur combination to allow use - I also have not yet figured out the brake actuation) - I used a bit of drag brake on the MM controller to get the diff working a second or so before entering the corners and it worked out great). The mount, top plate and front spacer will accept up to a 51 tooth spur gear without modifying the chassis. My test unit had a Castle MMaxx controller, UBEC, Novak fan, Wanderer/Feigao 9xl motor and a new black RC-Monster heatsink. I used a 16t hardened pinion on the stock 48t Losi spur. :)
Here are a couple pictures :) :
