Maybe the problem with the stock Pede's motor is that the rotor has been overheated to the point where it has been demagnetized. If this is the case, the motor would run less efficiently, and would heat up much faster. Definitely try the aluminum 'Pede's motor in the stock 'Pede, but use similar gearing as the aluminum one, or even a tooth higher on the pinion.
