Actually, I don't feel it (that springy sensation) on the 9XL at all. As for the grunt, the 9XL surpasses the 1512 in raw power. Running the 9XL geared 14/46 the power is very good. Running in grass, I can pull the wheels off of the ground at will. When I pick the truck up and hit the throttle, the tires look like they are about to be torn off of the wheels. With the 1512 and the same gearing, the performance is mild. With the same gearing, it will barely balloon the tires. I increased the gearing on the 1512 to 16/46 and it's better, but nothing like the 9XL.
On the other hand, the 1512 in the truggy is very smooth. As I said, it doesn't display the brute power of the 9XL, but it is far more controllable. I definitely don't regret having bought it. I'm going to take it out to the track this afternoon and see how it does.
Perhaps a gearing change to 18/46, or even 16/44 might do the trick for me. I'm going to have to mess with it. On the plus side, in my 5 minute hard runs, the motor hasn't even warmed up.
When I get the opportunity, I'm going to pick up a 1515 1Y. I had my eye on the 2.5d, but after having run the 1512 1.5Y, I think that the 2200kv 1515 might be the way that I need to go.
I'm also curious to see what the 1512 1.5Y will do on 5S. When I get my Compro or Quark back, I'm going to try it out. The 9XL on 5S was just too out of control, but the 1512 might just be the ticket.
On a side note, I'm wondering if the performance I'm getting from the 1512 is sub par and I got a bad motor. If I did, it would just figure, with all of the bad luck that I've had lately.
