The MM has the USB interface built into the controller already - the cable they give you is just a straight through USB connector.

The other shrink wrapped Castle ESC don't have the USB connector built in - you have to access it via the receiver plug.

I happen to have a CasteLink USB programmer from my Mamba25 ESC and it's got (probably what is built-in to the MM) the hardware to convert from a USB signal to be able to talk to the esc/bec via the receiver cable.

Probably an extra expense for those that only have the MM. But for the plane and heli guys who have the other Castle ESCs, they most likely already have the CastleLink USB controller.

I can se if you just need 1 BEC, that $25 for the BEC and $25 for the CastleLink is not justifyable. But if you are going to buy 4 or 5 BECs in the long the price even itself out.
