I think just removing the material on the outside of the red line will tidy it up alot, and still protect any wires/batteries etc from rubbing against the spur. Once the mount is trimmed to how you like it, strip the anodizing with oven cleaner & then polish it with fine steel wool and wd40 or metal polish if you have some, and it will look just as good as the proper G1 mount.
