Not really. The 9xl has a fairly low kv rating which means you would run it on a higher voltage, say 5 or 6s lipo. The result is that the motor makes its 'power' through voltage rather than pulling a higher current (amp draw). This means it may draw a higher current under hard excelleration/braking, but under normal driving and full-throttle it will draw a much lower current. Any good lipo with about 4000mah or so/more and a 20-25c rating should be perfectly fine. Its the 7/8xl motors that tend to be more demanding of the esc and battery (higher kv rating and lower voltage means higher current draw & resulting heat). Hope that makes sense.
