I dont see the problem, just turn the stupid pinion around and itll work fine, this is how my LS10 is and i dont have any problems (the shaft makes it to the middle of the gear just like in the picture.
the set screw and half of the pinion is on the shaft isnt it????? i dont see the big deal.
