Yep, I would just get a hardened pinion and use it directly on the stock metal spur.
I hope I can get a nice roller for my winter-project. I'm looking for a Mugen MBX4 or 5, or an Ofna 9.5 Violator.

I would also suggest 12 or more cells, or LiPo.
