This motor has no business in a Maxx, IMO.

Thanks for the feedback but wow, I didn’t think the performance was that bad! In fact, if I hadn’t of teased myself with the zipp of the 7-cell set-up (then made custom 3+4 saddle packs to accommodate it :L: ), I wouldn’t be too unhappy with it as a slow-basher/crawler unit – it never thermal’d on 6-cells and second gear was tolerable. In first, at 16/66 with either the 6 or 7-cell set-ups, it can toss itself on its roof with no effort – something my 2.5 never did reliably because of the spool-up in the tranny and clutch.. and tuning! ;)

Go 12 or more cells, and get yourself a Sensorless combo from Mike. (for example the MGM 16o amp ESC or Warrior 9920, and a Feigao 9L or 7XL motor)

There are a few reasons why I’d like to stay with 7-cells for the time being:
a) The disadvantage of charging two packs every time I want to run
b) My charger set-up (two chargers built for 7-cells gives me more run-time than charge-time by cycling my GP’s – gotta scoop up some IB38’s)
c) I've made my own 3+4 saddle packs for weight distribution and organised my chassis layout accordingly
d) The added weight

Certainly, at some point (to my wife’s dismay!), I’ll be going higher voltage, and when I do I plan on going LiPo to maintain the single pack/light truck ‘model’. But for now, as long as I’m on the NiMh’s, my preference would be to gear down if necessary to stick with 7-cells and take the hit on the top-end. As I mentioned earlier, I’m not disappointed with the performance of the SS5800 on 7-cells (for the time-being), I do however realize that I’m out of room and would like to have a system that could run on 7-cells now (at least as well as the SS) and can take higher voltage LiPo in the future.

If there’s nothing out there that I can scale by changing the motor/esc now and upgrading to LiPo in the future.. then I’ll just gear down a little more, throw a fan on the esc and change my driving habits; until I can make the jump to LiPo and new motor/esc at the same time.
