Apparently, machine winding is not as tight/precise as hand winding. This makes sense as because while a machine will just go around and around that pole to a set number of winds, hand winding can more precisely lay each wind down, and if there is a mistake (like a kink in the wire that throws off a certain wind), it can be redone.
