The only difference is amperage difference and hence the price difference on speed controls... More voltage = less amps pulled ^_^
Both Setups are competative... a 6s setup would run a bit cooler but cost a bit more for the speed control

Don't forget about the batteries.. if you need say 2kw peak, then at 6s you will be drawing 90A and 4s 135A. So you need much bigger or higher quality batteries to get that peak. Then also there is run time issues, if you run 4s you will need bigger packs again to get the same runtime as the 6s.
