I have a feeling that weight is what really kills maxx trucks. I run std rims and tires, light batteries and the minimum of al. My 2wd emaxx (old) has stock everything except for cvds and a single speed gmaxx conversion. It can handle a beating, but is light.

The new emaxx is working on the sames principle, only it has the 3.3 driveshafts and upgraded diffs. Plus not running 14 nimh cells also helps. I am very happy with my new emaxx, and would recommend it.
