I agree they can be a bit tricky at first, but if you really read the instructions and follow exactly what they tell you to do it all works out. I had a little trouble on the first couple of tries, but finally got the hang of it. You have to be careful not to get any solder past the locking ridge on the gold tabs, or they will not lock in. Once you get them locked in correctly though they will not come out when you are (plugging and unplugging) them. Plus there is a little room for the insulation so it actually goes inside of the connector, which protects it from showing bare wires. I also place a short piece of heatshrink over the end of each wire to give it a little bit more protection. All in all once you get them installed properly they give you more of a plug to grip during use than the Deans pugs do
