It is said the clutch helps prevent any cogging by letting the motor spool up a little before it engages. Motor startup is where the cogging occurs usually, so it may help if you are using gearing that is troublesome for the motor/ESC combination you are using. The Tekno clutch also provides a means to use stock clutchbell options. Probably acts sorta like a slipper to some degree at low rpms in systems where a traditional slipper setup is not available.
If keeping the two speed tranny, you cannot retain reverse without the FOC conversion.
