I have a feeling that your 9l will work fine in the buggy, just do not overgear and keep it as light as possible.
My hyper8 is at 7.6lbs with the batteries. I have not tried to make it lighter, this is just how it turned out. If I removed the servo mount, and went with some small chassis mounted servo holders that would shed some weight. But I would have to make a new front brace, as the hyper8 front brace uses the servo mount. I could most likely drill holes in the servo mount, and half its weight. I could have the chassis milled out with a ball mill some more to cut weight, but I am not sure what that would do to the chassis strength. Cutting down on wire length, switching to a MMM to loose the ubec, and a 6s lipo as opposed to 2 3s lipos would remove some weight. Maybe cf shock towers and top plate too? I like the milled all towers as they are strong, not sure if cf is the best bet there.
Maybe run lighter weight oil in the shocks! (joke)
Lighter wheels and tires should offer the best way to loose weight. I will weigh the wheels and tires, and see what they weight, They are generic and I would like to see the difference in weight with better wheels/tires?! Who makes the lightest tires?
