Not entirely accurate, but justified I suppose (I'm sure you have heard stories). LiPos are more dangerous than Nicads or Nimh because they contain more energy. This energy must be respected for sure, but they don't need to rest on pillows at night either. Certainly, they must be handled with care and respect, but they will also last a lot longer than the nickel batteries (10 times as many cycles if proerly cared for), have no memory and weigh half as much! Not to mention that if you spend that much on batteries, you should take some extra time to make sure they are kept in good order. I have seen plenty of nicad/nimh batteries burst at the track from carelessness or shorting issues, too.
