Generally I agree, but I can think of two scenarios:

1) HV - the more cells you use, the less of a difference a change makes. If you are using 2 cells, then yes going to 3 is 50% more speed. But if you are using 5 then going to 6 is only a 20% change. I have a setup that is going to be a nice powerful ride on 6S geared for ~42-44, but will want to drop down to 5S for some calmer driving around.

2) Doesn't apply to me, but if you have an ESC you want to switch between rc's with different setup it would make things a little easier than having to reprogram every time.
