Another Medusa question - 06.17.2008, 02:02 PM

I am thinking about using a Medusa 36-50 motor in my CEN ME16 but I am not sure what KV would be better. The battery box is sized specifically for a stick pack so that is my limitation. I have many 6-cell nimh packs that I will use and I also can use either a 3s Hyperion 3700mah or a 3s 3900mah neu lipo.

The 2 Medusa's I am considering are the 36-50-3300 kv and the 36-50-4800 kv. Both are 700 watt motors. The first question is do you think a 6-cell nimh will be able to handle the medusa? The second is looking at the following RPM's:

3300 kv
7.2 = 23,760 RPM
11.1 = 36,630 RPM

4800 kv
7.2 = 34560 RPM
11.1 = 53280 RPM

Which motor would be better all around for both battery types? To me the 3300 looks like the better choice for 3s and the 4800 looks better for the 2s but 23k rpm sounds a little slow while 53k rpm sounds dangerously fast. I could just go with a Fiegao 9S at 3943kv but I wanted to check the medusa's out, they seem like a good quality motor for the price.

Last but not least, woudl the 1/8th inch shaft hold up well or should I go with the 5mm? Problem there is the only 48 pitch pinions in 5mm I know of are soft brass.
