There is a possibility it's a radio issue also, if you have access to another identical transmitter, you may try swapping crystals (assuming you have the stock radio) and see if the symptoms show up still. Could be a bad steering position sensor (gimbal?)
or a wiggy receiver, maybe not likely, but just thoughts.
