I had to take the car in for annual inspection sticker after work tonight, so I got that taken care of and then boogied out to one of my old bashing grounds (huge park area by the Charles River up here in MA just outside of Boston).
Was planning a long evening of bashing three of my models (even packed everything up the night before), but the evening started off on a low note with rain and drizzle coming down on my way out of work. This already set my expecations low for having a good time. Luckily by the time the car inspection was done the rain had stopped and the ground was drying up a bit.
I went to a huge parking lot that was nearly empty and took out the E-Revo with a new set of the HPI Phatline tires on it - gearing was good, temps were in check - and then I lost one of the nuts holding the wheel on. Wheel went rolling across the lot (LOST WHEEL). Luckily I found everything except the pin for the hex nut, but that ruined that fun for the night after about 10 - 15 minutes.
Decided to move up the road to a smaller parking lot that had a nice huge grassy area just off the road (BASHING). Grass was a little thick but took out the CRT.5 just to have some fun. Ran that for about 10 minutes and wasn't enjoying too much because the grass was thick and had a lot of moisture in it and I was just slipping around a lot.
I put the CRT.5 back in my bag and took out the XB8 and just as I was bending down to plug in the battery 3 State Police trooper cars (COPS) and an unmarked Saab came outta nowhere and drove up on the grass and all of a sudden 4 troopers were coming forward towards me with their hands on the top of their guns in the holsters. They told me to put down what I had in my hands (remote control - see where this is going?), step back and put my hands where they could see them.
I thought they were going to bust me for boogying around the park with an RC car, but they were way more serious. Asked me if I had any weapons on me, looked through my RC bag and checked my ID on their computer.
Appears that some people driving by must have seen me with the remote, not seen the RC car, and in the evening dusk on a grey day called the police that someone was in the park waving around a gun.
I just about nearly sh*t myself (HEARTATTACK) when this all went down. They were real cool once they knew what was going on and told my I could keep playing around if I wanted. I decided the best thing to do was pack my stuff up and go home - wished them a safe night and shook the whole 20 minute drive home.

The nut coming off of the wheel happened to me 1 time and now I blue loctite the nuts on, I havnt lost one since...and I think I would have stayed and run the buggy, especially with the short run with the other vehicle...I lived in Lowell, Ma in the 80s and I knew some cops there that were pretty cool, I had a roommate who was an asst manager at a Burger King who when we would be out drinking we would go by the place after closing hours and he would fire up the fry and burger stations and some times cops would drive by and see the lights on and it was supposed to be closed and they would investigate and they knew my roommate and we would get them food and coffee and hangout with us...
