In RC that is a direct drive from the motor to the spur. In other words, he's not using a transmission. I know what you mean by direct drive though. In planes direct drive means just that, a motor that directly powers the prop. Other direct drive will be what a few people here have done, by not having a spur gear at all. So the motor is directly putting power into the diffs. RC can be complicated sometimes
