IMO the votage is way too low, Im sure you can run it like that geared for such, but you can thrown a couple titans and 6 cells and do the same speed/torque. 4 a123 is what 3.3 steady x4 =13.2v. ... 12 nimh (2 6 cells packs) 14.4, Thats would pretty lame on a 1y (2200kv) which couldnt do 40 geared stock with that V, I figure if you aim for 40 on a 2.5d (1700kv) on that same voltage you will cause some major stress on those pack, leading to everyting else, Just my opinion but id thow another 2 cells in there minimum (1 each as i assume you mean parallel)
