Presenting... My Hump-E-Revo:
Bought the E-Revo 2 months ago. Since the time I had it I fried the ff.:
1. 4200 stick pack batteries (replaced with 3300 side-by-side batts)
2. Stock ESC (Fried after bashing in the rain. Will need to go back to Traxxas for warranty repairs soon)
3. Couple of the Stock Talon tires started coming apart.
My build are based on the following requirements:
1. Ability to run on Snow during the winter season.
2. Ability to switch between brushless and brushed motors when needed.
3. Majority of time Bashing (maybe racing later)
4. More than 30 min run time
First step in fulfilling the requirements above, was the purchase of Kershaw Design's 700HO Motor. It added more torque for my bashing needs and eliminated the need to run 2 motors, had less weight and lower CG.
Second I needed a new ESC to replace my fried ESC. The choices that were available to fit the requirements:
1. EVX2 (which I fried),
2. M.Troniks Truck ESC (Couldn't find info if it could run Brushed mode)
3. or the Mamba Max.
I went with the MM because of reports that it could be waterproofed, had a LVC built-in, and could run both Brushless & Brushed motors. On top of it, it's a proven ESC and you can find lots of builds using this setup. It's not as efficient in running heavier vehicles like the MMM is, but disabling the BEC and adding a fan helps keep the temps down.
Third, batteries. I almost went with the 5000SC Elite batteries, but the additional weight and the need to make sure that the cells in the pack were in tip-top condition turned me off, so I went with SPC's 2s2p 8000maH 12C Lipos. My decision on the 2s2p packs was also for my Drifter chassis which runs a Novak XBR Sport 8.5 ESC.
Lastly, Tires/Wheels. The stock Talons are good bashing tires, but it just wasn't glued well enough for me so I went with Maximizer's Beadlock Wheel and Proline's Badlands tires. I didn't go for Proline's Beadlocks due to it's weight and 23mm Hexes.
So there you have it, a breakdown of what's on the erevo:
1. Kershaw Design's 700HO
2. Mamba Max ESC w/ Fan. set to 20% Punch, 50% brakes, LVC set to 13.6V
3. CC BEC
4. Two 2s2p 8000maH 12C SPC Lipos
5. Maximizer 1/2" Offset Tires w/ Proline Badlands
6. Ofna 17mm Hex Adapters.
7. Bad Horsie Shock Boots
Temperature Readings so far:
1. KD Motor - 160-200F
2. MM ESC - 130-140F
3. SPC Lipos - 100-110F
Couple of Goodies that I also did to support this build:
1. Purchased an iCharger 106B+ Lipo Charger (Very very satisfied with the charger)
2. I was able to get a free power supply from where I work and converted it to a PSU. (Pictures below)
Only thing I need would be a Brushless motor and I'm interested in 2 manufacturer's motors. This can wait however since winter's around the corner ;)
