Hobby Rule #2... They break. And if you are racing, you better expect to have spares, especially the vulnerable stuff.. In this case, ESC, Servos, Push rods, Pinions, Spurs, drive shafts, etc... Unless you are OK with it breaking at a race and calling it a day. And that would apply to nearly anything you are DEPENDING on to stay working.
That's just Murphy's law. If it can break it will.. Therefor, have extras.
So, empathy.. Yea.. None. It's a hobby...

nicely put. i agree, but that being said, when i buy something expensive i expect it to live up to the price tag. i travel for a living and have LIMETED space for my hobby(1 F8 pitbag). have never had a "spare" or second "backup speed controll" and never will. parts, yeah unavoidable, but i think people for the most part expect electronics to be flawless.

nothing is flawless, but the demands we place on the equipment we use can definately cause things to fail prematurely. even if it is a hobby we are talking about some serios time, money, knowledge invested into these machines, all of which are NOT expendable in my book. it will be different from person to person but i think most of these problems can be avoided with some patience and help from other sources. i gues im just trying to say that we are for the most part we not your average hobby people, we race we destroy we fix, this is how it goes. dont let failures get the best of you. it happens to everyone,

sucks but hey it could be worse right?
