More on what I said before, my 12 tooth rcm pinion meshed with a RR xtra wide spur is actually almost as quiet as it is on the kyosho nylon spur. The novak 11 tooth makes an irritating sound like something is stuck in the drivetrain, but the 9 and 10 tooth pinions aren't as bad.
My theory is that at low teeth counts it is best to stick with pinion gears that are divisable by 3 since brushless motors have a multiple of 3 phases or rotor positions. My guess is that you want each tooth that is pushing the spur gear accompanied by a consistant pull fro the motor. I recommend staying away from 11 and 13 tooth pinion gears, and if you have to, change the spur instead.
