Yes I did use a tap...but you really don't need it. Just mark existing screw holes from the chassis onto the battery tray and drill them one size smaller than the screws you intend to use. Then just use the screws to tap your holes into the battery tray...

I didn't use a tap for the Ultra build and it actually worked out better...
