Personally, if you have questions like "what do amps, volts, and watts mean", then you should not be attempting a project of that scale! Dealing with hundreds of volts without any idea of what you are doing is just asking for a one way trip to the pearly gates. These people should start smaller, like brushless RC. A lot of the principles are the same or similar.
