Electric, just like nitro can be both easy and difficult. Consider a vxl rustler and a nitro rustler. Both are simple entry level vehicles, and they are really easy to use. Run decent sidexside nimhs and the vxl will have similar performance to the nitro rustler. With the easy start setup the nitro rustler is simple to start and run, plus you only need to carry the ez start and a screwdriver. If you want more performance you can throw a bigger motor in the rustler, like an os .18. If you want the vxl to go faster, a 3s lipo will do the trick.

As far as nitro goes I am not really a fan of the noise. I do like the ability to refill the tank and keep playing, and my racing friends say that keeping the engine running during a race is one of the main parts of the competition. Just as Jerry says, some people like electric, and others like nitro. Alot of the guys here are craftsmen, and I believe that electric has more opportunity to make and modify than nitro offers... I am not that familiar with custom nitro projects, or a forum dedicated to them, so don't shoot me!!!!

Electric will always have the edge on speed, due to the larger useable rpm range and low end torque that allows for more aggressive gearing. As battery technology continues to improve electric will get even better. I do see that nitro can be tuned and modded to make more power, but the motors will have to get forced induction and fuel injection to improve and match electric. And the fuel will most likely have to change too...

But as long as you are having fun, who cares what you run! For the last few months i have been playing with crawlers, and they can barely do 10mph!!!!
