As far as that motor on 3s you may want to keep the 2 speed and mech brakes as they will help take some load off the motor.

Now if you want to go with motor brakes you have to lock the tranny in 2nd gear (or 1st). There is a sticky in the revo section by BrianG about how to do this.

As far as loosing the clutch, buy the rcm revo mount. It places the motor closer to the spur so that you can use std pinions. You may also want to run jato spurs, as they are 32p and you can get 32p pinions from traxxas or rrp with 1/8 bore to match the 1/8 shaft on the vxl motor. I would say that 18/54 gearing would be a good place to start, mid 30s with stock sized tires.

You really want to keep this truck as light as possible with that power system. Heavy wheels and tall gearing will produce alot of heat in the motor, esc and batts.
