+1. Voltage is your friend; higher voltage on a lower kv motor will draw less current. Gearing lower, smooth terrain, being easy on startups, some ESC settings (punch control and timing) also help keep current down. For 8th scale anything, I would say 4s minimum.
If you plan to use 4s, you might as well get the MMM instead. By the time you buy the MM and a UBEC, you have just about spent the same as a MMM which has a BEC built-in. And the MMM is rated for higher voltage and current to boot, so you can run up to 6s.
The MM/MMM works well with Neu and Medusa motors with version 1.20 firmware or higher. Older revs work, but 1.20 is much smoother and the startup algorithm is MUCH better.
