I can see several reasons not to do this:

1. Extra weight
2. Removes the effectiveness of the chassis as a heatsink
3. Creates additional work to get down to the metal to mount accessories
4. Aluminum slides on dirt/rocks/whatever. Plastic/rubber will grab.
