Going to convert my (new to me) Savage X - 03.09.2009, 09:40 PM

Got my X about a couple weeks ago. I was thinking that it was a Savage X4.6, but I found out after googling a bit, that it is actually a Savage X. After replacing the servo, buying fuel (along with all the other nitro stuff), and having to go through the truck replacing screws that had fallen out, rebuilt the shocks, etc. I have decided that for me to keep going in nitro, I am going to have even more costs. I would need more fuel, a one way bearing, a pull starter, primer bulb, and new Savage X4.6 duel disk brakes, it would make more sense to convert. I had always had plans of converting it, but I think I am actually going to get around to it this time. Plus the fact that it is a smaller nitro engine then I thought. Now, regardless of the setup I chose, I am going to have to sell the nitro stuff and save. I am starting with a Triton 2 charger, a Savage X roller (with hitec 645Mg servo), and an equinox balancer.

I would ideally like to run a 10000 mah 6s, but that is not going to happen... I was looking into the Zippy 5000mah 5s. Obviously I would be buying the RCM motor mount, and find some way to mount the battery. My question is, how is my battery choice, charger, truck (will it need anything else?), and I need setup help. I read the Hobby wing 80A ESC review, and although it's not perfect, it is cheap. Cheap is sounding very good right now. I would like to get as cheap as possible without buying junk. I have also thought about the MMM 2200Kv combo.

As for the ESC, the 80A hobby wing and the MMM are looking pretty good. As far as motors, I would hate to go Feigao, but if it will get the job done I am good with that.

As far as performance, I just want something with enough power to make my nitro engine look bad...
I know that because I have a low budget, I am not going to be getting the BEST quality stuff... I am just looking for around 40 mph top end, with plenty of wheelie torque, and a decent running temperature. I am also planning on locking the truck in 2nd gear.

Looking for any input as this will be my first conversion. Your thoughts on setup, things I missed, etc.

Thanks
AD
