2.5" to go from 1/8 to 1/5 scale? Might need more than that I would've thought.
The theory is sound though- just take a look at Candyman's latest build- custom chassis and centerdiff unit with truggy/buggy front and rear ends. Use some offset wheels and/or axle extensions and hey-presto.
