Sav XL conversion options..6 or 8S? - 04.04.2009, 05:16 PM

Need some thoughts on which way to go. So I have a bunch of different parts and options on which way to go. I''m just not quite sure how much power I'll need for the XL version of the Sav. I want to keep the big tall tires, or at least 40 series big joes or mashers down the line.

I'm really leaning 8S, but here's the setup options.

8S:
MGM 9032
Tekno 1515/3D
For batts I have Neu 30C 4S 5000 (x2), TrueRc 4S 5000 packs (x2) and some TRC 4S 3200 15C (x2) packs.
Batts fit inside chassis. Not flux compartment.
So if I go 8S, I have plenty of batts already. The Neus are new as well :)

6S:
MMM
Motor? 80mm medusa.. would sell 1515 to get
I have many new 3S 4100 30C Neu packs. I was just going to sell these.
Batts fit inside chassis and flux compartment.

Powerwise I am aiming at 28V@ ~70-80A, ie ~2000W. Should be plenty and easy to do on the lower C TRC batts. For 6S more like 100A@ 21v. Batts will do that as well, just then I have all these 4s batts that are prolly worth little selling (other than the neus) Not really looking to go much over 40 w/ this.

I also have a rustler what will use the 4s batts, no its nice to keep everything modular and just cut down on the # of batts I have laying around (too many as is). Also planning on getting my old revo running again (maybe as a slayer) and I would use the 4S batts in that. Not looking for much power in that, more for my son when he's a year or two older. Maybe a race class at a RCM bash. Dunno.

So really I'm pretty well set on 8S. I'm best setup for it, and I really like HV. Every dude has a MMM, so doing something different would be cool. The 3D on 8S is a little high on rpm, but can be geared a bit low as the truck is so heavy anyway. TQ should be great. Otherwise I was going to get a 80mm 1100 kv medusa, but the Tekno was too good a deal to pass up, plus it has the build-in bulkheads, so I won't need to worry about a mount.

I've got 3 qts of nitro to burn thru, so I've got some time to think.
