When the switch is off, there is no current flow/drain, so it should be fine. The only other mod I personally would do would be to cut in a balance tap so you don't have to open it every time.
Sometimes I wish the DX3R/S would have stayed with the 8AA cell theme. Using a lipo for ~6v is too much work.
