The manual gear chart just indicates what speeds you will get with what gearing, it is in no way a recommendation to run that gearing or an indication that the equipment will last.
Heavier/larger diameter tires require less gearing to maintain the same load on the motor. Any setup requires x number of watts to move, if you add more weight to the tires that number of watts required will go up. To get it back to the original output you need to lower the gearing!
I have no idea why people have such a hard time getting their minds around this... If you add more voltage the motor spins faster and the tires go around faster too, and if something goes faster it must be producing more power...
