The controller is what usually thermals (not the motor). If the motor had a damaged winding, it would cause the controller to be more likely to thermal. I am curious what the cause of death was. I called it thermaling because (according to Novak tech, the flashing led indicated thermaling) yet the esc was cool. My understanding is that the motor it's self is sensored for thermal readings and the system will shut down if the motor it's self is too hot, as well as when the esc is too hot. That could be incorrect info. but that's what I was told, so I just assumed the motor thermaled.
Performance slowly got worse until it kicked the bucket.
