i dont know how true this is so don't flame me if i am wrong
i have heard that if your batteries are plugged in (with the switch off) and you turn the steering servo it can blow the esc or in your case the fan
as i say i don't know how true it is but what exactly did you do when you plugged the battery in e.t.c
