Are the 0/90 and +/-45 degree layers distributed evenly? If you have access to UD rovings or sheets, you could improve bending stiffness a lot.

i actually dont know alot about the carbon manufacturing. i just buy all my stuff from da-graphite out of San Diego. but he knows what i need and actually has made carbon sheets with 20* and 30* bends for the old ultima i think. i hate using the heat to bend it myself but it has worked until i can get the manufactured stuff from da-graphite. i think he uses the approach of what you are talking about. although instead of using steel he uses two 7075 aluminum plates. i am just waiting on the aluminum plates from the machinist and then i can start getting manufactured plates with the bend. thanks for the tips though.
