I want to stay away from the 3s, I have one only and don't wish to purchase any more. I just dropped another 400.00 on several HC 4s packs.
You are spot on with your thinking. I think that is why the 2200Kv is somewhat popular on 3S as you get more gearing range, and , its a good motor for the money. Ideally more voltage is better for sure.

I don't think you will have a problem with your KV range, from what I have been reading, seems some of the RTRs are coming with motors in the 1800Kv range now on 4S usage.
