Just tell the guys at RS you plan to solder larger gauge stuff. Maybe even bring in the ESC to show them what you plan on using it for. They might try to sell you their 100w+ soldering gun, but that is too big. Again, it is possible to use it, but the higher heat may be difficult to control if you aren't used to it.

Ideally, you'd want a 50-60w iron with a large chisel tip. If all they have is a 30w iron, that's fine too (just takes longer to get hot enough and needs more time to reheat back up between each solder joint you solder), just make sure you get the chisel tip. The larger mass of that tip holds heat longer and makes things much easier.

No matter what, since this is your first time soldering, it may be a good idea to have someone experienced to do it while you watch. A poor solder joint can make a good esc seem crappy.
