Well I feel pretty confident that the esc and firmware are fine due to my troubleshooting with other motors. The solder maybe the cause but moving all the wires while checking things seemed to yield no difference in performance. I do believe something jarred loose internally. It did quit running after a pretty hard landing though the truck was fine and the motor can had no scarring.
