And yes, the way you have it does provide some benefit, just not quite as much as if they were closer to the ESC. They are there to help the FETs, and the further away they are, the more wire resistance is present which reduces their effectiveness. Yeah, wire has little resistance, but it does have some, and at the currents we run (well over 100A), any resistance produces voltage drop.
