The neu design is ment for helis & planes mainly, in those vehciles the motor wires arent subjected to forces manking them vibrate and wiggle up and down constantly- thats why castle took the design and changed it so that the wires dont/cant get damaged and short against the can.
You can always slide some insulation over the wires and into the can a little bit, that will prevent them shorting out- depends on if the enamel coating on the wires is also damaged & causing the individual strands to short against them selves in each main wire...
