the manager at my lhs listed that auction. at one point, the bidding got up to $10,999 but he cancelled the bids because there was no way he wanted to be responsible for any of the cost in fees in case the seller didn't pay.
he got over 160 questions and tried to answer them all as humorously as humanly possible, but after 4+ pages, the auction hit the limit for replies.
because the auction never reached the reserve by the end, he was getting offers for a couple of days after it ended.
imo, the best offer was for a mildy mentally challenged monkey. (this was also a JOKE) LOL
I think the only sad part of the whole auction were the basement losers who obviously couldn't take a joke and starting giving him a hard time for thinking he was auctually trying to pass this off as a working motor. everytime he got a bid, he emailed the bidder and told them exactly what it was and gave everyone an opportunity to back out or cancel their bid.
for anyone who was a fan of the page. there was a bunch of additional info written in white letters that may or may not ever have been found.... but described this auction as nothing more than a joke in good humor.
Why did he do it? It was just to lighten up some folks and have some good natured fun. the only person who ended up paying anything was him. the original posting fees of about $5.70.
i really think this could have sold if it had been listed in the arts section. the asthetic value alone was worth millions. LOL
as for the fate of the very first nitric engine, it's on it's way back for repair.
