The mechanical part is a piece of cake for me, but the electronics are a bit intimadating for me. Getting the right electrical setup is a little bit difficult to do right.
I even got our two boys to build their very own stock Maxx trucks from scratch, and now they are begining to get into the upgrade sliptream of things. It has been our goal from the start to get enough trucks built up so that the whole family can hit the track and have some fun. We are close, but now we need to invest in some good Lipos and a strong charging system to get things off the ground. $$$$$ is always an issue. I hope I never have to get into a position of having to sell any of our stuff like I have seen people doing on here and on UE. Times are tough.

That's awesome that you are getting everyone involved...they are going to love and enjoy it tremendously! Plus, if the boys get the chance to piece together and build their own Supermaxxes, that will be an incredible experience for them that they will remember for the rest of their lives! Like I told
nitrostarter below, building and owning a Supermaxx is unlike anything else in the RC world, and they are in a league all their own. And unless you have built or owned one, you will just never understand.

Supermaxxes are in a league all their own, and unless you have one, or have built one in the past, it's just something you can't, and will never understand. I love 1/8 buggies and truggies as well, and just recently placed an order for an XRAY XT8 2009 Specs Truggy and an XRAY 808 2010 Specs Buggy, both of which are going to be Brushless. But, I will always love Maxxes, especially my Supermaxxes & Gorillamaxxes. And of course, I can't forget to mention my extremely & heavily modified, upgraded, and custom-built Brushless Revo 3.3 that is my daily 1/10 basher!
Also, Maxx trucks are awesome for pretty much anyone, ESPECIALLY younger kids and/or first timers, or anyone that likes to upgrade and modify. The Maxx-Series of trucks is not only a very good platform, it has the largest aftermarket support of any vehicle, so owners can build their Maxx anyway they want it. Next in line is the Revo-Series of trucks, which everything above can be said about them as well!
